The dust bowl of the 1930's Great Depression made it unbearable for any bluesman west of the Mississippi. Enduring the blinding dust storms and the barren landscape, it created a more harsh and tore down approach to the music itself. It was a turning point for the blues as the music reflected the struggles of basic survival.
