This Painting reflects the mood, music style, and characters in New Orleans during the 1920’s. King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band in this 1921 depiction of street music gave me the best opportunity to show how the famous New Orleans nightclub “The Funky Butt” would drum up business during the day to lure patrons in for the evening. The Buddy Bolden Band, famous as the original Funky Butt musicians were rarely photographed and never recorded.
